What is Computer

A computer is a device that accepts information in the form of digitalized data and manipulates it for some result based on a program or sequence of instructions on how the data is to be processed. 

It has the ability to store, retrieve and process data. The main parts of computer are mouse, monitor, keyboard, printer, CD and DVD drives and Floppy disk drive.

Characteristics of computer:

Speed - Speed is the main feature of the computer. Computer works very fast. It takes a second to perform the command.

Storage - Storage is  another main characteristics. It can store a large amount of data, floppies are the second storage device. The storage capacity is measured in MEGA BYTE, GEGA BYTE and TERA BYTE.

Accuracy - the computer accuracy is very high. Computers performs a large number of calculations with no errors.

Computer helps in Economy:

The invention of computer has improved our economy and standard of living in many ways. Some of the ways it has improved our economy from the past 2-3 decades is by the unpredictable growth in the rate of business, in commerce and  as well as global trade.  

Computer has made trading simpler that nowadays importing and exporting are managed easily. Everything is managed through email that the other side receives information in a snap. With this technology available consumers do not need to travel to other countries to test the samples rather, they can just communicate through the computer.

Because of computers, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has also improved the economy in India, Philippines and South Africa by offering thousands of jobs to individuals. According to the 2008 records, India has grossed the revenue of $10.9 billion from offshore BPO and $30 billion from IT.

Due to hard competition in the global market, manufactures and producers are forced to reduce the price to stay in the business ladder.
